The Filarmonici of Rome chamber
orchestra Uormerly the Chamber
Orchestra of Saint Cecilia), founded by
some members of the Saint Cecilia
National foundation, has been widely
praised by critics and audiences since its
appearance.

Amongst others, it was
conducted by Wolfgang Sawallisch, Carlo
Zecchi and Yeudi Menuhin and it played
with soloists like Nathan Milstein, Yeudi
Menuhin, Angelo Stefanato, Dino
Asciolla, Henryk Szeryng, Mstislav
Rostropovich, Katia Ricciarelli e Mariella
Devia, playing in various formations to
meet the various needs of to vast repertoire
ranging from Baroque to contemporary
music. Currently it has a fuhilling activity
with the famous violinist Uto Ughi as
soloist and conductor Many of its concerts
have been broadcasted by Italian and
worldwide television. It has made records
for the Italian State Record Library and
for the Italian State Broadcaster; with Uto
Ughi it has recorded the complete Mozart
violinconcertos for RCA Victor Red Seal
(BMG) and six Wvaldiis concertos for
BMG-Ricordi. In Venice, the orchestra
has taken part in the celebration for the
centenary of the birth of Respighi, in the
"Homage to Venice " Festival in honour of
Arthur Rubinstein and in the "One lufe for
music" award in honour of Carlo Maria
Giulini. Often invited to the ojfcial
concert seasons of the Italian National
Academy of Saint Cecilia, the orchestra
collaborates with the leading concert
organizers, also participating in events for
humanitarian causes promoted by
Amnesty International, the Cancer
Research Association, Mother Teresa of
Calcutta and the FAO. The orchestra has
made various tours abroad, to be
mentioned the ones in Mexico, in Canada
(where it took pail in the "Italy in Canada"
Festival, representing Italy under the
auspices of the Academy of Saint Cecilia),
in Beirut (as part of the celebrations for
the fjiieth anniversary ofthe liberation of
the Lebanon), in Madrid for the Otona
Festival and, more recently, in India
(Delhi, Calcutta and Bombay) and in
Greece with Michele Campanella, in the
USA and in Zagreb, where it opened the
1996 - 97 concert season. By invitation of
the Italian Ministry of Foreign Ajfairs, in
‘97 the orchestra came back to India for
the fiftieth anniversary of the
independence ofthe country. Recently the
orchestra played in New York, in Lincoln
Center with the cellist Enrico Dindo and,
in 2005 at the Carnegie Hall with the
violinist Uto Ughi. A]?er two tournees in
Japan, it played in Middle Orient (Egypt,
Siria, Czprus and Lebanon) and in
Thailand; it was also the first occidental
orchestra playing in Myarman. For the
2007 it has scheduled a tournee in
Moscow and all Baltic Capital Cities. It
has won numerous awards, including the
"Caelsia " Prize for Art and Cultures, and
has received a gold medal from the Rome
City Council and a golden plate from the
European Parlament, which says " To the
the Filarmonici of Rome Orchestra,
which has brought the expression of
Italian music worldwide to the very
highest levels ".
